55-Alive! ( www.55-Alive.com) is one of the top websites for baby boomers and those over age 50. In addition to having access to several thousand articles, 55-Alive! Members can create a profile and blog, create and join groups (including Team 55-Alive!), start a photo gallery, and search for the best retirement communities and used RV’s. 55-Alive! Members can also join 55-Alive Romance!, where they can search for others with similar interests.
55-Alive! wanted to provide members with the ability to send and receive messages from other 55-Alive! members (including 55-Alive Romance! Members) from their desktop. Additionally, 55-Alive! wanted to feature summaries of the most recent articles, with links to the full text of the articles, and links to the 55-Alive! “friends” that each member may have added to their profile.
We created a widget for 55-Alive! so that 55-Alive! members can login to their account from the widget, and send and receive messages from their desktop without having to first visit the 55-Alive! website. We believe that this is the first widget built for the Yahoo! platform with this message functionality.
The 55-Alive! widget also provides members with the latest headlines and articles from 55-Alive!. Through the widget, 55-Alive! members can preview a summary of the article (which is shown with any associated picture or graphic), and then can click on the link to go directly to the full article on the 55-Alive! website.
55-Alive! members can also see information about their friends through the 55-Alive widget. When a friend’s name is clicked, the widget expands and shows 4 pictures that the friend has added, along with a brief profile or away message of their friend. |

Need: Cappies of Greater Cincinnati is comprised of members from thirty high schools in Greater Cincinnati, and needed a simple solution to communciate with all of its members in one place.
Solution:
The Cappies of Great Cincinnati Widget allows the directors to communciate with members directly on their computer desktop. It provides a central point for news and calendars.
The Cappies Widget allows all news and announcements to be communciated to all members' desktops within 10 minutes of release to the widgets. The directors can now push content to their members and highlight media coverage of the organization. The members can be linked directly from the widget to the media source and view descriptions and photos from the Cappies Widget.

In addition to reviews covering movies currently in theaters, Filmcritic.com provides a database of reviews covering several thousand movies, as well as a wealth of information about actors and actresses, and movies that are just released on DVD.

While the Filmcritic.com website offers a convenient search capability, Filmcritic.com wanted to create an easy and simple to use desktop platform where users wanting to go to a movie could easily see what movies are currently in theaters, and read the reviews of the movies. It was also important that the solution not put too much strain on the Filmcritic.com server, and that the solution display the information quickly.
We created a widget for Filmcritic.com which pulls the titles and reviews for movies currently in theaters. Users of the widget can easily see the names of the movies and how many stars the movie received from Filmcritic.com, and can click by the title of the movie to read the review, or click to go to the Filmcritic.com site.
Because of the significant time required to crawl the database of thousands of movie reviews and return results, the initial widget response time was approximately 19 seconds for the initial load. We created a solution off-loading the server response to our server, which cut the initial response time to less than 1 second.
In the first three months following the Widget's release, it was downloaded more than 4,000 times, and traffic to the website has more than doubled. Filmcritic.com’s traffic continues to increase dramatically as it becomes more known as one of the leading movie review sites. |

RV Listings Online wanted to create a customized widget that would provide users with the latest new and used recreational vehicles added to the RV Listings Online website.
We created a widget that randomly shows recently added RV’s, as well as allowing users to begin a search for RV’s at any time based on RV price and location.
The full page listing for the RV’s displayed through the widget can be directly accessed by users by clicking on the RV. |

Retirement Communities Online wanted to create a widget so that potential community owners could easily search for communities based upon location and average community price.
We created a widget built in with both of these search capabilities, and which also allows communities listed in Retirement Communities Online to be randomly featured on the widget, thus further promoting community listings. |
